Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO Benign Paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is an inner ear pathology characterised by dizziness on the movement of head in certain position. Symptoms: Dizzy sensation also known as vertigo that usually lasts up to a minute, light-headedness, blurred vision, vomiting, loss of balance, unsteadiness, nystagmus and nausea. Most of the symptoms occur while changing the position of the head. Etiopathogenesis: BPPV occur due to a disturbance in the inner ear. The debris ( ear rocks) also known as octonia which are the calcium carbonate crystal that are supposed to be attached to part of inner ear called the Utricle become loose and go into one of the semicircular canal. Normally the fluid is present inside the semicircular canals that moves with the change in the position of body.
